BTP-Games Origin Stories
BTP-Games is a Georgia-based Limited Liability Company founded in 2025. The primary goal is to build knowledge and real-world skills by incorporating tabletop gaming into learning. To that end, BTP-Games hosts summer day camps focused on history and problem-solving for middle and high school age participants.
Phil’s Origin Story
I have always loved games. I first played Air War in 1982 then read everything I could on air combat, jet fighters, and modern warfare. That eventually led to exploration of other topics, more boardgames, and a career in national security. Boardgames and books have always been my first step to better understand topics.
My recent retirement from Fort Eisenhower/Gordon marks the beginning of a new chapter. Joey and I discussed running a history camp as a potential venue to share knowledge and experience with young people, and BTP-Games was born. This offers me the opportunity to be a part of the gaming hobby and positively influence participants and families across the Augusta area.
Joey’s Origin Story
It all began in middle school when my parents gave me a copy of Axis & Allies for Christmas. My little brother and I spent countless hours battling over the board, plotting strategies, and diving deep into military history. Our dad was a WWII movie buff, adding even more fuel to our imagination. I scored a copy of Panzer Leader at garage sale when I was 12. It didn’t take long to teach myself the rules, and I played it time and again to cement my love for the hobby.
Fast forward a decade, I was station in Korea. I was introduced to Civil War miniature gaming through friends I met at the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) organization. On a second trip to Korea, I crossed paths with fellow gamer Tom Vasel, and we founded The Dice Tower podcast. It’s still going strong today, inspiring gamers around the globe.
